Wow! Nominations were released this morning for the ENnie awards, and I'm blown away to find that One Geek to Another was nominated for Best Blog!
For a blog that deals with all aspects of geek culture (movies, music, karaoke, conventions) along with gaming in all its myriad forms to be nominated for a game-focused award along side such great strictly-game focused blogs as Critical Hits, Gnome Stew, Kobold Quarterly, and NewbieDM.com - well, I'm honored and amazed!
For those of you unfamiliar with the ENnies, the process goes something like this.
Publishers or creators submit their work to a jury of five judges. Those judges go over a huge pile of submissions, and pick their top 5 in a wide variety of categories (ten in the case of Best Product of the Year). Then those nominations are released to the public (which happened this morning, July 9th).
After a week, on July 16th, voting opens up on the nominated products. Anyone can vote in any or all categories. They log IP addresses, to prevent folks from voting multiple times for their favorite products. Voting closes after a few weeks, and the winners are announced at GenCon, the first weekend in August.
So there's a two-fold voting process - first the judges vote to narrow the submissions to a small number of nominated products, and then the public votes on their favorites.
I've been nominated for products in the past - predominantly my work for White Wolf. Two years ago, Changeling: The Lost, which I was proud to help create, won ENnie gold in several categories, and last year my Changeling SAS, The Rose -Bride's Plight was nominated for Best Adventure.
In fact, this year, three other products I worked on have also been nominated:
- Goblin Markets (White Wolf) - Best Setting
- Buried Tales of Pinebox, Texas (12 to Midnight) - Best Regalia (ie: something related to a game but not a game product)
- Geist: The Sin-Eaters (White Wolf) - Best Product of the Year
But this year is the first time I've been nominated for an independent project, something that was mine from the ground up. Thank you so much to all the ENnie judges who nominated One Geek to Another!
